Pudong District Riding Shanghai’s east bank with the Huangpu River, Pudong’s name literally means as much. The city’s urban heart, it holds the highest population of all the districts, and its historic position as a soaring stretch of farmland has long since been supplanted with the endless hustle and bustle of a growing financial powerhouse. Rebel activity, however, has scaled with this growth quite evenly. |

Chongming District Though it’s nearly the smallest district in Shanghai in terms of population, Chongming’s namesake is the third largest island in greater China, though also included in the district are the smaller islands of Changxing and Hengsha. These three are linked together by bridges, and Changxing is connected to the mainland via a five mile underwater roadway to Pudong. Compared to the rest of the city, things here are generally much calmer. |

Northern Districts Including Jiading, Baoshan, Minhang, and the numerous smaller districts between them, this area grows quite tightly packed into an urban core nearer towards the center. It covers many of the city’s universities, notably, and possesses a dense, crisscrossing metro network. The waterfront area of the Bund is also here, still remaining quite the tourist attraction. |

Southern Districts Grouping together the districts of Qingpu, Songjiang, Jinshan, and Fengxian, the area encompassed contains a wide array of tourist attractions, as well as the historic cultural powerhouse that is Songjiang. Thus, despite the less dense population, Superstar activity here remains quite large, especially during the seasons where tourism is high. |
