Name: Lance Byrne
Alias: Augmented Angel
Gender: Male
Age: 30
Affiliation: Hero/Superstar
Physical Appearance:
Personality:
Due to his military history, he's known for using military lingo on the field. Lance is known to be a motivator and a strong leader. Other times in the heat of combat, he can sometimes go overkill on a situation. Sometimes he may be abrasive on the outside, but deep down under all that armor, he's lonely and doesn't want to show it. He fears it makes him look weak. Despite all this, he won't hesitate to make a wisecrack on the field.
History:
Born in a rich family in America as Lance Byrne, he was raised by his loving parents. Growing up, he had a fascination with technology and robotics. He would tinker and work with machines everyday. When he was eighteen, he had signed up for the military, where he began designing war robots, mechs, and bionic limbs suited for war. DARPA and CIA-JSOC favored him for his intellect and his ability in the field.
Lance was stationed in some third-world country overseas to investigate a shadowy organization that is suspected to be plotting several acts of terror that would certainly cause World War III. This war would involve nuclear warheads and the near-extinction of humanity. Primarily, the mission is very low-profile as his team were to infiltrate one of their headquarters. The sooner should his squadron be discovered, the more likely that important information will be destroyed by the organization, bringing them back to starting from scratch. During the infiltration, one of the squad members tripped an alarm and a fire fight broke out. In the midst of the trading of rounds, a grenade was thrown at the team. He wasn't quick enough to escape the blast, but fortunately his team was okay and he only lost his right arm and eyesight. Afterwards he was extracted from the mission as soon as some backup and an exfil team arrived.
He woke up in the hospital, able to see that his right arm was replaced by the bionic arm that he created. Wait, he was able to see after going completely blind? Yes, because his eyes were replaced by bionic eyes, which allowed him to see better than the average man. After being discharged, he went back into the field with some experimental power armor while being funded by DARPA. This birthed the prototype Icarus Suit (now known as the Valkyrie Suit as of present day), which allowed Lance to infiltrate and annihilate the organization once and for all. Sadly, this was a top secret mission that didn't make it in the history books.
Going into inactive duty afterwards to go home, his parents passed due to medical complications. Their wealth was given to Lance, which was spent on his high security building called Blackgear Industries. This is where the foundation was laid for his robotic experiments and futuristic tech research. Overtime, upgrades and enhancements have been made, and he even learned something... special about himself and his link to technology. This sparked the idea to become a hero much like Iron Man since he had the knowledge and money to make his 'costume'. Keeping true to similarities in Icarus' theme, he took on the alias of Augmented Angel!
Power:
Technological Link: This allows Lance to mentally hack into any machinery he has knowledge about. However, this does come with limitations. For instance, he cannot hijack a huge machine entirely, but he can take control of some of the systems. Everything he has created is unhackable due to his creations being 'linked' to him, unless he were to give full control to somebody. They are also easy to control fully no matter the size due to the 'link'.
This is due to him entering some sort of 'cyber spirit' form (it's kind of like a meditative state) that is able to even manipulate mechanical/analog/digital machines. Digital stuff with a firewall is harder for him to link to. If Lance is connected to his own digital network and someone tried to hack into it, they are met with EXTREME resistance since this 'cyber spirit' is at its strongest, due to the fact that it can create anything to fend off cyber threats at ease. Outside of it is a different story.
Drawback:
ECM Jammers/EM Fields. They stop him from mentally hacking machines or communicating to the rest his arsenal outside a short radius. His tech may have extensive EM hardening, but that doesn't make him immune to his own weakness.
Weapons:
This is Lance's go-to armor with MANY features.
Notable Features
- Multi-layer plating with high defensive capabilities against bullets and small to mid-scale explosives. Almost as hard as diamonds.
- Immune to much weaker magic.
- Microscopic heat redistribution and cooling matrix. Allows for some plasma resistance, but not immune to sustained fire.
- Lead lining for radiation immunity paired with Geiger Counter on the outer plates.
- Wings are built into it. The wings can fire 8 scattered cyan lasers from the front ends that home in at a single point or target (Angelic Barrage). Alternatively, he can charge them up to fire a beam that converges into a larger beam (Angelic Ray).
- Ion thrusters for agility. Top speed is Mach 3.
- Cyan energy blade that is able to slice through most materials like a hot knife through butter. Complimented by a hand-held hardlight shield projector that can withstand heavier impacts.
- Proximity sensor and many HUD features built into the visor. It can run complete scans on stuff should there be no interference.
- VERY extensive EM hardening.
- Super strength, reflexes.
- Electricity absorption, storage, and discharge feature.
- LRHS (Light Refraction and Heat Suppression) Module. This can easily be defeated by any visible substance getting stuck on the suit.
- Overdrive. After disabling the safety parameters of the suit, the speed and strength double. This does, however, come at a cost. Like causing the suit to overheat and slowly damage itself the longer it is used. Only used for desperate measures.
Ability Cooldowns/Durations
Angelic Barrage: 1 post cooldown.
Angelic Ray: 2 post cooldown.
Overdrive: Reduces cooldowns of the suit by 1 post. At a hefty cost. Lasts 3 posts before the suit breaks down.
Brief Description
A direct upgrade to his Valkyrie Power Armor, which is able to attach itself to it. Lance calls this in for bigger baddies that he cannot handle while in the Valkyrie Power Armor.
Measurements
Height: 8m
Weight: 1.1 tons
Notable Features
- Same defensive strengths of the Valkyrie Power Armor, but improved.
- Same mobility options as the Valkyrie Power Armor.
- Molecular Displacer allows the suit to teleport in a 10m radius at any axis if it is allowed. However, three teleports will exhaust its capacitor's power supply.
- Cyan energy blade and hard-light shield much like the Valkyrie Power Armor's.
- Three quantum capacitors routed primarily to different systems. One goes to the Molecular Displacer, another to the hard-light shield, and the last is to the rest of the suit. Auxiliary power routing allows for other capacitors to power another feature.
- Lacks wing lasers, but has hard-light wings instead.
- Left shoulder features a laser cannon while the right has a gauss artillery cannon that can fit many different kinds of munitions and payloads.
- Each wrist has dual plasma cannons.
Ability Cooldowns/Durations
Teleports: 1 post cooldown.
Ion-powered VTOL able to withstand pretty much any environment, from crush depths to space travel. It is also used as air support and extraction of personnel and/or civilians.
Measurements
Wingspan: 9m
Length: 9m
Capacity: 30 persons (24 passengers, 1 pilot, 1 co-pilot, 4 medical personnel)
Notable Features
- Cyan hard-light-coated wings.
- Laser and plasma miniguns and missiles.
- Mini cold-fusion reactor.
- Medical bay.
- LRHS Module.
- VERY extensive EM hardening.
Adaptable Reshaping Engagement System. Or a stupid way of saying a shapeshifting gun. Listed below are the armaments stored within its memory. (Inspiration came from the BLADE System in Vanquish)
Blackgear AP-39
His tactical assault rifle used to penetrate armor, scan for weak points, and fuck stuff up in general. Can switch between semi-auto and fully-auto. It looks a bit like a modern assault rifle mixed with a railgun.
Mag Size: 15 Anti-Armor Rounds
Max Mags: 2
Blackgear PHG
His plasma handgun featuring a microscopic heat distribution and cooling matrix.
Mag Size: 6 Plasma Bolts
Max Mags: 2
Blackgear PMG-77
Due to recent advancements, Lance can now safely utilize plasma in a much more compact way due to a microscopic design to redistribute heat and cool down the weapon. This is a result of that. The PMG-77 is a plasma machine gun capable of easily making swiss cheese of anything without plasma resistance.
Mag Size: 20 Small Plasma Bolts
Max Mags: 2
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+Augmented Eyes: Better vision and marksmanship.
+Prosthetic Right Arm: Enhances his strength. Can greatly mess up a car with it.
+Tactical decision making.
-Easy to overwhelm.
-High stress often poorly affects performance.
-A bit too reliant on his Valkyrie Power Armor. Without it, he's squishy.
Likes/Dislikes:
+Machines. Guy will nerd out over that stuff.
+Tinkering. Kinda goes in hand with
+Going all out. Within good reason.
-Enemy magic users. Oh, do they REALLY grind his gears!
-Surprises.
-Losing control of a situation.
Fears:
- Letting his team down.
- Allowing civilian casualties.
Style Points: 0
Arcs:
Fallen Angel - After suffering a hefty defeat, he'll learn that he isn't as strong as he thinks he is.
Blackgear Elites - Teamwork is good. So, he'll try to recruit people into a task force. Each representing a key value; Leadership, Protection, Endurance, Justice, and Strength.
Corruption/Evil - Falling victim to a digital virus, Lance becomes evil. Heroes must help him fight the evil taking control of him!
