Let's review.
This is a board that rewards its users for posting. Not for writing a story and developing their characters and all that good stuff, but for posting - and frequently. In but a few short weeks, we already have members with nearly 100 posts. Typically, this would make for an incredible milestone. However, this is not a typical situation, as those posts are low-effort, hastily written, and saddeningly short. These many, many posts contribute only to one thing - and it isn't their passion for literacy.
It contributes to the metagame.
Each rank up gives the member a significant advantage over their peers in combat situations. As I've said once already, the victors should be decided by who can more creatively turn the tide of a fight with their literary skill alone. I want to see members create large, flowing posts with masterful prose and clever strategies to honestly try to defeat an enemy. Instead, winners are easily decided by whoever has posted more. I want to see writers on this site. Not just posters.
This system is discouraging. Think, maybe months down the line, in which a new member wishes to join the board with an up-and-coming villain. Their character might have awesome potential - wonderfully creative and unique, and certainly able to contribute to the community. But that character would have no choice but to fail every encounter they come across, simply because they are new to the board. The ranking system is restricting in its conception, and while it rewards older members for their contribution, it punishes newer members for trying.
This is, first and foremost, a story. A project. Fighting is a key component of this site (due to its nature of being based on classic comic books), and like all good stories, the victors should never be arbitrarily pre-determined. Everyone deserves a fighting chance.
It is to that end that I've created this poll. I want everyone to vote once, and once only. If I catch anyone voting with their alts, they will be immediately punished. Don't try it!
Those of you with differing opinions, please post them in the thread below. I would be delighted to hear what you think.
