Name: 狼 (Láng) (Style Name: 拜心 Baixīn)
Alias: (The) White Wolf
Gender: Male
Age: Twenty-four
Affiliation: Rebel
Physical Appearance:
Láng is slightly below national average height pre-Metatanium yet his limbs appear lanky due to the hourglass tapering of his mid-section. His arms and legs are corded with the lithe musculature of one familiar with regular work or exercise. A mottled crimson scar mars the pale-yellow flesh of his left arm beginning at the hand and ending in a flared pattern at the crest of his shoulder. Premature wrinkles line his forehead and laugh lines, exaggerating his apparent age which is accentuated by the thick silver mane of hair he keeps held back into a ponytail. His convex face bears slightly pronounced cheekbones, a sharp chin, and a hooked nose atop which perch his golden oval eyes with their heavy epicanthic folds that imply a state of perpetual skepticism or contemplation.
Láng most often wears flowing two-pieces white robes with high collars and intricate golden scrollwork patterns along the hem, neck, and chest with the image of a lotus upon the back. Although the former is his preference in most settings he does occasionally don more urban apparel with simple t-shirts, pants, and sneakers. For the latter sets of clothing he prefer neutral colors that are plan in their cut and design preferring functionality over appearance.
And of course a hero needs a mask. Just in case.
Personality:
Láng at his best is kind, thoughtful, and loyal man. At his worst he is arrogant and self-righteous. He carries intense beliefs in the value of spirituality and especially the teachings of The Way of Immortal Lotus which exonerate all of the virtues he strives to embody: Generosity, manners, self-control, diligence, and introspection yet he has not mastered the way yet. He despises the current practices of the government to hide the wounds of their shattered nation with the flights of fancy of the "Superstars" rather than healing the wounds of body and soul with mediated actions and holy wisdom. As a result of his upbringing he is quite traditional and "dated" in some of his adherence to poise and etiquette which at times portrays his as condescending and stuffy, but despite his shortcomings he wishes above all to follow the path of the Junzi which was always meant to serve the people and seek peak physicality, mentality, and spirituality that he might live up to the title of 'Superior Person'.
History:
Láng was born in the countryside of China and raised in a relatively rural environment as society began to tear at the seams in the wake of the Metatanium crisis. As an orphan babe he was delivered to the temple wherein The Way of Immortal Lotus was created by Master Jin Zhou. Master Jin would have been a controversial scholar for his life works in fusing Mahanya Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism in a way that allowed the "Eastern Philosophy to merge as trickles into the stream of human consciousness and spiritual understanding.", but amid the chaos of the collapsing society his work avoided both positive and negative reception from peers.
Láng's ability to manipulate thermal energies manifested at the age of ten with disastrous consequences. During a routine meditation session he tapped into that wellspring of power and began to draw in the heat from his surrounding dramatically decreasing the temperature, but there was no release for the energy that began to well up inside of him. As the sudden in temperature began to overwhelm him Jin Zhou sprang into action, grabbed the boy's hand, and used his power of kinetic manipulation to channel the energy out. The result was a ferocious gout of flame as the energy was expelled from his body which threatened to destroy the limb. The healers of the temple were able top prevent the loss of limb and even extensive crippling, but the unseemly wound remained and it requires several years for the arm to reattain a degree of mediocre functionality.
Since the display of his Metatanium imbued powers he was given special lessons to prevent another incident and further his understanding of the blessing and curse. Láng adored Master Jin as a father figure in his developing years, a shield from the misfortunes of the outside world, and now the savior of his life two-fold. When he was thirteen years old, near enough to being considered grown, the civil war broke out and began to further ravish the lands which prompted him to seek enlistment.
He was dissuaded from this rash decision by his guardian's skillful intervention and although initially bitter and confused by how powerless he was to aide his people it was Master Jin's promise of "Someday, but not today Láng." that furthered his devotion. His reinvigorated dedication to the teachings and exercises allowed him to rise as an honored pupil of The Way and earn the title of Junzi. Although the title is meaningless among the current political climate Láng seeks to restores its former glory and bring honor to his Master's school of thought by giving the people a more meaningful and lasting comfort in these dark times.
Power:
Thermal Manipulation - Lang has the ability to sap the heat out of specific objects or environments and can, with proper focus, redirect the heat into a controlled blast. As a result of his power's side effect he is able to endure temperatures that would kill an ordinary man and can inflict harm by raising or lowering the temperature.
Drawback:
As he draws the temperature out of another object it must be stored within him and although resistant to increased body heat he is not invulnerable. If he absorbs too much heat it must be dissipated back into the environment either through a gradual release or a controlled blast. A controlled blast requires focus to avoid causing damage to his body through improper channeling. The concentration necessary is not always feasible in a combat situation. Furthermore he is only able to expel the beams from his left arm which poses further risk if it is not used in a careful manner.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ He is persuasive and can speak in a way that stirs the counter culture.
+ Very educated due to his upbringing.
+ Regular physical exercise has made him physically fit and agile.
+ Practiced with a bō staff and can use one with the skill of a monk.
- He is unwavering in his belief that his ideology is correct.
- Obsessed with morality.
- Is prone to losing his temper when he is unable to negotiate or persuade others.
- His left arm, although it is not his primary, has lost most of its motor functionality.
