Name:
Shibata Hiroki
Alias:
Scampfire
Gender:
Male
Age:
15
Affiliation:
The Superstars
(in training)
Physical Appearance:
Hiroki is a bit shorter than most kids his age, with quite a slender build. With his messy brightly orange hair, freckled face and pretty generic face he certainly doesn't look like a hero. He has green eyes that are usually drifting all around the room like he was scanning around. Otherwise, there is really nothing special, no legendary birthmarks, and no scars.
He usually wears bright colors – red, orange or yellow, usually with stripes. Most times he also wears baseball caps (not indoors that would be rude). From time to time he wears all black, just for funsies. But never blue… he doesn’t like blue.
When he turns into Scampfire he becomes very unique looking indeed. His hair turns to something that looks like a living fire. Also his eyes stars to glow with unnatural fire. It's all just a way to radiate his energy, it can't hurt him nor anyone else. It's quite spectacular though. It also doesn't impair his vision in any way, though his "hair" is a light source he can't switch off (unless he turns back to Hiroki). In night his head becomes a big bull's-eye.
Personality:
• Hiroki is a normal student. He is a bit bookish and nerdy. He likes studying and reading is quite into superheroes and manga. He is careful and dedicated, focused on whatever he's doing to the point of obsession from time to time. He doesn't look for an attention, but he is quite sociable.
• He strongly believes in justice and loyalty, but with a strange spin. Once he founds a friend he becomes so loyal to that person that he might even go against his own standards. He fears abandonment above everything else.
• He is quite dedicated, capable and willing to face problems head-on. He doesn’t mind, when things come easy, but he also firmly adopted the “bring on any challenge” attitude. Every time he got challenged by something he emerged triumphant in the end, even when there were temporary setbacks. He doesn’t believe in no-win scenarios. If he should face a real Kobayashi Maru… who could know what would happen…
• As Scampfire he is a very different person. Well... more specifically he is still the same person but he becomes very rash and hot-headed. He relies heavily on his instincts, especially in combat. That can land him in all sorts of troubles, but less often than one would think. Frankly speaking, he enjoys being Scampfire very much, treating is as more of a fun. Well until the point he gets into a real danger or he gets injured. At that point, his focus returns, hopefully not too late.
History:
Hiroki is a child of a Japanese diplomat and Chinese actress. With parents like that he enjoyed a life of luxury. Whatever he needed he could have. The only problem was, that his parents were quite strict. Whatever he needed he could have, yes, but not whatever he wanted. It wasn't an entirely happy childhood. There was no big tragedy, just a strange sense of emotional sterility. He was commended for a success, but it rang hollow for some reason. He often tried to escape this word with books and video games. His parents had a very strict routine for him - both physical and mental. It included athletics, languages, art, and history...
During those times his power first manifested. While he was training he inadvertently blasted fire from his hands, setting the gym on fire. Luckily nobody was injured in the incident. He blamed the entire unfortunate event on faulty wiring. He didn't want his parents to know his secret, even though he always suspected that they somehow gave him those abilities. It certainly wouldn't surprise him. It wasn't easy to train his powers in secret so he decided to enroll in a boarding school far from home, pretending he just wanted to study.
It wasn't long before he got an opportunity to show himself to the world. A huge fire broke up in a chemical plant, threatening to explode the whole facility, blowing dangerous chemicals all around the area. Hiroki, who was luckily nearby, managed to calm the fires down with his fire powers, it was dangerous, yes, and it drained him more, than he suspected, but in the end he did it. With his first heroics done he managed to get noticed by some big time heroes who offered him to enroll in a special hero course. With that his road to become a hero began...
Power:
Fire avatar - Hiroki has the ability to transform in an avatar of fire. At least that's what he calls it. This transformation is quite quick, usually takes seconds and requires concentration. While transformed his hair turn into living fire that produces light, but isn't hot. His eyes (can) appear to be on fire, but yet again it's just for a show. While in this form, he is completely immune to his own fire and highly resistant to most other fires.
His main powers are in his limbs. He can set his fists of fire, using them in hand to hand combat, he is capable of shooting fire from his fingers as beams, or concentrating them into fireballs. Hiroki is also capable to use his legs as basically jet engines (though not that fast of course), giving him the ability of flight, though he is not entirely comfortable flying yet. If his fire gets out of control he can extinguish it with some effort. He can also do it with natural fire, though it takes longer and is more taxing.
His flames have secondary effect - they heat the air, creating mirages. Though it's not unique to his flames, those mirages happens every time he is using his flames. It's nothing elaborate, mostly just distorting images and distances. Hiroki is used to it, so it helps him in combat indirectly.
Drawback:
• Once transformed, he becomes a bit like fire - hard to control. He mostly acts on impulse and instincts. It's very difficult to "override" those instincts. The only thing powerful to break through is his self-preservation. In care of mortal danger it gets easier to control himself.
• If caught unprepared his transformation takes few seconds of concentration. In this time he is basically defenseless. If he can't concentrate he can't transform, it's as simple as that.
• While his powers are supernatural they have to follow most of the physical rules - his fire can't burn without an oxygen, it can be extinguished by water mostly like a normal fire. In wet or cold environments his fires are weaker and takes more energy to keep going.
• While his mirages are useful, they aren't that difficult to look through. Experienced fighters will adapt quickly as well as those, who saw them before.
• When using his powers, his body heats up as well. The heat is radiated through his hair and eyes (hence the fire effect). If he uses his powers too long or too intensely this radiation no longer suffice. His powers deactivate on it's own to save his life. He is left with high fever that slowly dissipate. If he needs to use his powers quickly he needs to cool himself down.
